Future UCA Bear wins ASGA Match Play

CONWAY – Incoming University of Central Arkansas freshman Miles Smith won the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Boys Match Play championship on Thursday at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club.

Smith, from Little Rock Catholic High School, beat Cabot’s Connor Gaunt 4 and 3 in the final after needing 19 holes to knock out Lake City’s Thomas DePreist earlier in the day.

“It was great to watch Miles win today,’ said UCA head golf coach Steve Runge. “I’m really looking forward to him joining the Bears this fall.’

Smith, 18, closed out the championship match with a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-4 15th hole. Smith, the Class 7A champion as a senior, was seeded ninth in the match play aafter a 2-under 70 in Monday’s qualifying.
