Hot bats end losing streak for Ouachita

The Ouachita Tigers’ baseball team (6-18, 4-9 GAC) broke a nine-game losing streak Friday afternoon by defeating the East Central Tigers (7-14, 6-7 GAC) by a final score of 8-6 in Ada, Okla.

The win featured strong games from multiple Tigers. Ty Owens, Justin Weigle, and Aaron Studdard all picked up two RBI on the day, and the team as a whole had thirteen hits. John Franlkin Matros was the winning pitcher. Matros pitched into the seventh inning and struck out five batters.

The Tigers opened the game strong, scoring four runs in second inning. Aaron Studdard opened the scoring with a two-RBI single. Studdard was then batted in by Jakahari Howell. Justin Weigle finished the inning’s scoring by hitting an RBI single to send Howell home.

The two teams traded runs in the fourth inning, and Ty Owens hit a two-run home run in the sixth to extend Ouachita’s lead to 7-1. East Central attempted a late rally by scoring five runs in the final three innings, but Logan Huneycutt entered the game in the ninth inning to close out the game and earn a save.

The Tigers will finish the series tomorrow, Mar. 18, with a doubleheader. Games will be played at 12 and 3 p.m.
