CLINTON, Mississippi — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was defeated in non-conference action by Mississippi College on the road Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 10-5.

Arkansas-Monticello (3-8, 1-2 GAC) got off to a quick start in this contest against the Choctaws of Mississippi College (2-10, 0-3 GSC) after a Brian Ray home-run to right field gave the Weevils the early 2-0 advantage. UAM added to its lead in the next inning after a Lathan McFadden single drove in another run to put the lead out at 3-0.

Mississippi College went on to score six unanswered runs through the third inning, and although the Weevils were able to add one run in the top of the fifth inning, MC scored four more runs of its own to ultimately take the game at 10-5 by the final out.

Notable statistics in the match-up for UAM included two hit days for Brian Ray, Lathan McFadden and Geoffery King, with Ray adding two runs scored, two RBIs, one double, and one home-run to his overall stat-line.

On the mound for the Weevils, Landon McFadden and Nicholas Duthu threw one scoreless inning each in relief with Landon recording one strikeout as well.

The Weevils will be back in action this weekend as UAM will host Great American Conference opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State in a three-game conference series with game one set for Friday, Feb. 24, with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
