WALNUT RIDGE – The Williams Baptist University women’s basketball team lost 87-78 to 25th ranked Lindenwood University-Belleville on Saturday. The American Midwest Conference contest was played in Belleville, Ill.

The Lady Eagles competed with the ranked Lady Lynx for much of the night, but a slow second quarter proved to be the difference. LU-B led 21-19 after the first, but outscored WBU 24-13 in the second. This gave them a 13 point lead at halftime. Williams made halftime adjustments, outscoring the Lady Lynx 44-42 in the second half, but it was not enough for the win.

Five Lady Eagles reached double digits in scoring in the loss led by Ashlyn Ellis and Kate Junkersfeld. The Pocahontas, Ark., natives scored 17 points each. Teara Walker followed them with 15 points, while Melanie McKuin and Khiandra Perry scored 10 points each off the bench.

Williams shot 48 percent (30-of-62) for the game, including 55 percent from 3-point range.

This was the first AMC game of the season for WBU, and they will play an out of conference game next. They host Blue Mountain College on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. It will be the second time the teams play each other this season, as the Lady Eagles lost 68-61 in their season opener.
