LEXINGTON, Ky.  –  University of Arkansas at Monticello Director of Athletic Communications Devon Lucal has been selected as the Grant Burger Media Award winner for the NCAA Division II SID category by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The AVCA Grant Burger Media Award is an honor intended to recognize members of the media who have been involved in the advancement of the sport of volleyball through consistent coverage in all mediums. It is named in honor of Grant Burger, former Director of Sports Information and Associate Director of the AVCA (1988-92), whose hard work, innovative mind, knowledge and enthusiasm took the areas of media relations and publications at the AVCA to a higher level and increased awareness of the sport of volleyball nationwide.

Nominations for the Grant Burger Media Award are made by the head coaches who are members of the AVCA.

“Devon is the absolute best SID that I have had the pleasure to work with,” UAM Head Volleyball Coach Kelly Burdeau said. “He has been at The University of Arkansas at Monticello for almost two years and one can see the difference in product on all sites since he joined UAM. I really admire how he sees a project through from start to finish.  He is always lending an extra hand, working extra hours to help make our program a success here at UAM and in the community.”

As the Director of Athletic Communications, Lucal serves as the primary media contact for all 11 of UAM’s athletic programs. He coordinates all media relations for the athletic department, including in-game statistics, graphic and video design, live video streaming and social media along with pregame and post-game content for the Blossoms’ and Weevils’ official website, www.UAMSports.com.

“This is an incredible honor to be chosen for the Grant Burger Award by the AVCA,” Lucal discussed. “Our volleyball program here at UAM, under the excellent guidance of Coach Burdeau, has certainly made terrific strides within the past years since its’ formation in 2005. I have always had an interest in the sport since my undergraduate years at the University of Mount Olive, and I am fortunate to have been around both coaches and players here at UAM who have a true passion for the sport.”

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lucal is currently heading into his third year as the Director of Athletic Communications at UAM, after joining the staff in September 2016.
