PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Lyon College baseball team rallied from behind and used a five-run ninth inning to earn a 12-8 win to complete the series sweep against Park on Saturday afternoon at Comfort Field. The Scots have swept their last two conference series after winning all three games against Hannibal-LaGrange last weekend.

The Scots extended their current winning streak to eight games and improved their record to 15-6 (8-1 American Midwest Conference). Lyon currently stands alone in first place in the conference standings. Park fell to 6-9 overall and 1-9 in the conference after the loss.

Park broke the scoring column first against the Scots in the bottom of the opening inning. Will Long started the inning with a lead-off single before a pair of stolen bases moved him up to third. Long came around to score on an RBI single by David Paffenroth.

The Scots quickly answered back to knot the score at 1-1 in the next inning on a solo home run by Tucker Harris. Lyon added to its total in the third inning as Kyle West drove in a pair with a two-run double to give the Scots a 3-1 advantage.

Park trimmed the Lyon advantage to one in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Long.

Lyon scratched across two more runs in the top of the fifth as Easton Moore singled followed by a double by West to put runners on second and third with one out. Brandon Giribaldie brought home Moore and West with a two-run double into the gap in left-center field.

The Pirates got a run back in to bottom half of the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Paffenroth.

The Scots led, 5-3, entering the bottom of the seventh inning until a two-run home run by Long knotted the score at 5-5. Three straight singles by Park gave the Pirates a one-run lead until Nico Codemo added another run with an RBI single later in the inning.

Moore started a two-out rally for the Scots in the top of the eighth with a single before West tied the game at 7-7 with a two-run home run.

Lyon carried its momentum following the game-tying home run by West in the eighth inning into the ninth. The Scots worked the bases loaded after a single by Harris and back-to-back walks by Tanner Seibel and Zane Pritchard. Lyon regained the lead on a go-ahead two-run single by Moore. The Scots kept pouring it on as West and Gunner Starr followed with an RBI single each. Lyon added one more run later in the inning on an error by Park to take a 12-7 advantage into the bottom of the ninth.

Park gained a run in the bottom of the ninth, but that would be all the Pirates would get as James Clift picked up his first win of the season in relief.

Clift allowed the lone run on two hits while striking out two in two innings of relief.

Moore and West both had a big game at the plate for the Scots. Moore finished 4-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored. He is now just one hit shy of moving into a tie for 10th all-time in career hits in Lyon College history. West ended the day 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored.

The Lyon College baseball team will return to Scots Field on Tuesday to host Central Baptist College in an AMC doubleheader beginning at noon.
