INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA selected the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader between Henderson State and Southeastern Oklahoma State for its DII Showcase Games of the Week. The women’s game tips off at 5:35 p.m. followed by the men’s contest. Both games air on a vast variety of social media platforms.
All four teams enter the final weekend of the regular season in contention for GAC regular-season crowns. The Savage Storm women sit one game back of Harding while Henderson State trails by two games. The Savage Storm appeared at No. 7 in the initial Central Region rankings. The Reddies won the prior meeting this season, 77-72, at home. Hailey Estes tallied 15 points and 16 rebounds in the win, overcoming the 31-point, 11-rebound effort from Southeastern’s Katie Webb.
The men’s showdown features two of the region’s top 10 teams. Southeastern registered at No. 2 in Wednesday’s ranking while the Reddies garnered the 10thspot. They share second place in the GAC with both one game behind Southern Nazarene. At 19-7, the Reddies need one win to reach the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2006-07 season. In their earlier game, Henderson State rallied late for a 67-63 win. Raekwon Rogers paced Henderson State with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. The Savage Storm’s Kevin Buckingham scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
