BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2016 preseason all-conference team today with four Golden Lions earning preseason honors, voted on by the leagues head coaches and sports information directors.
Willie Duncan, III leads the cast of UAPB preseason all-conference performers as he received first team preseason all-conference honors.
Duncan, a 6-0, 220, senior linebacker from Southfield, Mich., finished last season with 118 tackles (46 UA, 72 Asst.) ranking him second in the conference in tackles per game (10.7 tackles per game). In addition, Duncan recorded 7.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble return, one quarterback hurry and two pass breakups. In the 11 games Duncan played last season he recorded double-digit tackles in seven of them. Duncan posted two 15 tackle performances on the season against Alabama State (10-15-15) and Southern University (11-7-15). He also posted a 14-tackle performance against Grambling State (11-14-15).
Receiving second team preseason all-conference honors was David Adams, Jamie Gillian and Willie Young.
Young, a 6-1, 180, senior wide receiver from New Orleans, La., finished last season with 597 receiving yards on 50 receptions with three TDs. He recorded a season high 181 yards on 12 catches with one TD against Grambling State (11-14-15).
Gillan, a 6-0, 170, sophomore place kicker from Leonardtown, Md., finished last season with a 90 percent PAT percentage by nailing 18 PATs in 20 attempts ranking him fourth in the conference. He also ranked third in the conference in field goal percentage making eight field goals in 12 attempts for a .667 field goal percentage.
Rounding out the cast of UAPB preseason all-conference performers is Adams, a 6-4, 300, senior offensive lineman from Pine Bluff, Ark. Adams was a part of an offensive unit that racked up over 1,418 rushing yards, 2,022 passing yards for 3,440 yards of total offense.
