JONESBORO – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team is ranked as the top team in the country in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll that was released on Wednesday.
The Red Wolves (29-8) received 28 first-place votes and 1,337 total points to jump to first after being ranked third in the Preseason NTCA Poll. Sam Houston State is ranked behind A-State with eight first-place tallies and 1,223 total points. Nebraska (1,170), McKendree (1,148), and Stephen F. Austin (1,008) complete the top five of the November poll.
Arkansas State has competed in three tournaments this season with no lower than a third-place finish in any of the events. The Red Wolves won their first tournament of the season in their last competition, the Warhawk Classic, Nov. 11-13. A-State turned in a second-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational to open the campaign Oct. 21-23 before a third-place showing at the Track Kat Klash Nov. 4-6.
This is the first time for A-State to be ranked first in the NTCA Poll since the December poll of last season.
Arkansas State returns to action after the calendar turns to 2017 in its home tournament, the Mid-Winter Invitational, set for Jan. 13-15. The event will take place at the Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro with free admission to the tournament.
