WICKLIFFE, Ohio – A-State women’s bowler Julia Huren earned a spot on Junior Team USA with her performance at the 2017 Junior Gold Championships held across seven different bowling centers in the Cleveland, Ohio area July 17-22.
Huren, who will be a sophomore during the upcoming 2017-18 season, claimed one of six spots on Junior Team USA for 2018 by virtue of finishing fifth in the individual standings with a total pinfall of 5,327 for a 204.88 per game average. Huren becomes the seventh Red Wolves bowler to be a part of Junior Team USA in school history.
A native of Westland, Mich., Huren finished her freshman campaign with a 208.83 per game average with the majority of her action coming in the second half of the season. She claimed her first career all-tournament and MVP accolades at the Music City Classic with a total pinfall of 1,140 and 228 per match average that was 14 pins greater than the second-place finisher.
Additionally, incoming freshman Leah Glazer finished the event in ninth place with a total pinfall of 5,248 for a 201.85 average per game. The Henderson, Nev., native also won a match in the double-elimination bracket that the top 16 finishers advanced to. Glazer signed with the Red Wolves during last November’s early signing period.
