Today the ASN Spotlight shines on Laura Helmich!

• Williams Baptist softball

• Hometown: Avilla, Ark.

• Early education major expected to graduate May 2020

• Plays softball in college; played softball, basketball and volleyball at Harmony Grove H.S.

• Favorite player and teams: “I really like Lauren Chamberlain as a softball player. I also enjoy watching D-I college softball in the spring.”

• Favorite sports moment – personal: “Probably my favorite sports moment was when I was a freshman in high school. We were in the state championship for 3A. It was the 7th inning and I was playing on first base and we only had one out. The score was 2-1 we were winning. We had a runner at first base. The next batter hit a line drive to our pitcher and then she threw it to me for the third out. That was a moment I never would forget. It was so awesome to see that all of our work had paid off. We practice almost everyday (even in the rain).”

• Favorite sports moment – overall: “Watching Arkansas softball making it so far through postseason this year.”

• What do you like most about WBU? The environment and the teachers

• Who do you most look up to? My mom.
