WALNUT RIDGE – Shackeel Butters recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Williams Baptist University men’s basketball team to an 89-68 victory. The win came in front of a capacity crowd in WBU’s annual homecoming game.
The Eagles were all over the Royals early and often as they stormed to a 14 point lead at 26-12 just 10 minutes into the contest. They continued to add to the lead, taking a 42-25 advantage at halftime.
The lead reached as high as 24 in the second half before finishing at 21 in the 89-68 win.
Williams shot 49 percent for the game, making 36-of-74 from the field. They knocked down 12 3-point field goals on 39 tries in the contest. Meanwhile, the defense held EC to 41 percent at 26-of-63.
WBU dominated the glass, finishing with 47 rebounds compared to 31 for the Royals. The Eagles used 15 offensive rebounds, converting them into 14-second chance points.
Travon Cobb led Williams with 23 points, making 8-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-12 from beyond-the-arc. Marquez Chew filled the stat sheet, recording 12 points, eight assists, five steals and four rebounds.
WBU’s next game will be played at home on Saturday, November 9 against Evangel University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
