CONWAY – Seeking to run their win streak to five games and sweep the season series, Central Baptist College softball welcomed Crowley’s Ridge College to City of Colleges Park this afternoon. CBC (24-17) led early in both games and got excellent pitching, sweeping the Pioneers (17-21) 8-0, 8-1.

Rachel Gregory (SO/North Little Rock, Ark.) got the win in game one and Brooke Trout (FR/Blytheville, Ark.) followed with a win in game two. The Mustangs clubbed four home runs, all in game two, courtesy of Allison Seats (FR/Jacksonville, Ark.), Anna Beth Duncan (FR/Cabot, Ark.), Cali Lankford (JR/Perryville, Ark.) and Rachael Jones (SO/Conway, Ark.).

GAME ONE – CBC 8, CRC 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Neither team scored in the first inning, but CBC would pounce in the second. Allison Skelton (SR/Prairie Grove, Ark.) led off the inning reaching on an error. Pinch runner Allison Seats subsequently stole second and then moved to third on a sac bunt by Beth Jones (SR/Hope, Ark.). Seats would then score on a wild pitch to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Brianna Nunn(JR/Missouri City, Texas) would follow by reaching second on an error and stealing third the scoring on Gabrielle Mueller(SR/Taylor Ridge, Ill.)’s groundout to make it 2-0. A walk to Alyssa Estrada (SO/Houston, Texas) would setup back-to-back run scoring doubles by Kaitlyn Goike (FR/Magnolia, Texas) and Kinley Burrows (SO/Jacksonville, Ark.) to put CBC on top 4-0 and Hunter Clark (SR/Sheridan, Ark.) drove in Burrows on an RBI single for the final run of the inning. RBIs by Estrada in the third, Beth Jones in the fourth, and the game-ending single by Goike in the fifth were all the Mustangs needed. Gregory threw a complete game three-hitter, walking just two and posting a season-high five strikeouts.

GAME TWO – CBC 8, CRC 1

Game two started much like game one, with neither team scoring in the first and CBC capitalizing in the second. Cali Lankford would single with one out and score two batters later on Skelton’s double to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead. Aleighu Porterfield (SO/Beebe, Ark.) would then double home Skelton to make it 2-0 through two innings. Back-to-back homers from Seats, her team-leading 10th of the season, and Duncan, her second, made it 4-0 CBC through three innings. No runs crossed the plate in the fourth and Lankford extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth with her sixth home run of the season. The Pioneers would cut the lead to 5-1 in the sixth thanks to a pair of hits, but Trout would get out of the inning with a runner on and no further damage. The final three CBC runs came on Rachael Jones’ sixth home run of the season to bring the score to its final total. Trout threw a complete game, surrendering just three hits and one run, issuing just two walks while striking out four.
