Mustangs win one in opening series with Bobcats

Point Lookout, Mo. –  The Central Baptist College Mustangs open the 2017 baseball season on the road at the College of the Ozarks.  The Mustangs won the second game 6-3, with the Bobcats taking the series with a 3-1 and 5-0 victories.

CBC fell early as the Bobcats scored on a single in the first inning and a fielder’s choice in the second and had strong pitching from Collan Thrasher for the win.  Thrasher pitched seven innings and gave up one run on three hits.

Monterio May (SR/Helican, AL) scored the lone run for the Mustangs and was 2-3 on the day.  Collin Nord (SR/Aberdeen, WA) took the loss, pitching five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking two.  CBC was charged with two errors in the game.


The Mustangs took the second contest 6-3 after taking the lead late in the game.  CBC was down 3-1 in the sixth inning when Jalin Lawson (SR/Troy, AL) doubled driving in three runs.

Ben Madison (SO/Benton, AR) earned the win for CBC going six innings, giving up three runs on five hits, striking out ten and walking one.  Aaron Kincaid (SR/Prairie Grove, AR) picked up the save.  Deonta Howard (SR/Pine Bluff, AR) was 2-4 with two runs on the day.  Monterio May, Jalin Lawson and Josh Hibbard (SR/Munford, TN) all had one hit for the game.


In the final contest, CofO’s Alex Stephens held CBC at bay going nine innings and giving up six hits, no runs and striking out five.  The Mustangs’ Caulin Cragle (SR/Houston, TX) was charged with the loss giving up three runs in four innings of work.

L’Donta Howard (SO/Foreman, AR) was 2-4 at the plate and Austin Kuchinski (SO/Powder Springs, GA), Percy Arnold (SO/White Hall, AR), Ryan Guyton (SO/Cordova, TN) and Deonta Howard each had one hit each.

 

NEXT UP:  The Mustangs will host Bacone College February 10-11 with double headers each day. Friday’s games will start at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
