ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Tigers’ softball team defeated Lincoln by a final score of 8-0 and Northeastern State by a final score of 8-5 to conclude the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational.
In Game One, Sarah Johnson and Logan Even got three RBI’s each for the Tigers, and Marissa Butler pitched a complete game and got the win. In Game Two, Macy Wilson and Macy Nantz knocked in three RBI each in the win.
The Tigers opened Game One strong with four runs in the first inning. Sarah Johnson hit a home run driving in three. A few batters later, Logan Even singled up the middle and brought another runner home. The Tigers never looked back after the first inning and won the game 8-0.
In Game Two, the Tigers conceded one run in the top of the second inning to fall behind by a score of 1-0, but responded with a vengeance in the bottom of the second with six runs. Macy Nantz knocked in three of the Tigers’ six runs in the inning.
Northeastern responded to the influx of runs with four runs of its own in the third inning, but they were unable to close the gap. The Tigers scoring one run in the fourth and sixth innings respectively. Macy Wilson drove in Kelly Powell accounting for both of those runs.
Macy Nantz started the game for the Tigers, but was replaced by Kelsey O’Brien in the third inning. O’Brien did not allow any runs and picked up the win.
The Tigers will look to improve upon their 3-1 record on Feb. 14 when they play a doubleheader against Williams Baptist at Sully Anderson Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
