Tognarine named to ABCA Gold Glove Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The NAIA in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association announced the 2018 ABCA/Rawlings-NAIA Baseball Gold Glove Team on Wednesday night. Lyon College senior right-handed pitcher, Tyler Tognarine, was selected to the team, which was chosen by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association All-America Committee. It is the second time Tognarine earned the honor after he was named to the team in 2016.

This season, Tognarine had 42 total chances from the mound, as he finished with 33 assists and nine putouts. Tognarine was perfect from the field as he did not commit an error. He played a role in four double plays during the season. Tognarine’s top game defensively came on Feb. 18, when he finished with four assists and one putout against LSU-Alexandria.

Tognarine was a two-time American Midwest Conference Gold Glove recipient during his career as well.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 9,700 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 75th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 3-6, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
