UAM’s Rios tabbed as NCBWA preseason All-American

PEMBROKE, N.C.  – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball student-athlete Andres Rios was named to the 2018 National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America Preseason All-American team as a Honorable Mention announced Thursday.

Rios, a senior from San Diego, California, also earned a First Team All-Central Region preseason selection as well, and will look to lead UAM at the second base position this season after appearing and starting in all 54 of the Weevils’ match-ups a year ago.

Andres found himself in the top five of multiple Arkansas-Monticello stat categories including second in runs batted in (44), third in doubles (11), third in at-bats (191), fourth in batting average (.309), and fourth in hits (59).

Rios also finished 2017 second overall in sacrifice flies in the Great American Conference, 10th in runs batted in, along with 11th in assists and sixth in fielding double plays on the defensive side of the field.

The Weevils will look to continue from the success of last season after capturing its’ second straight GAC Championship Tournament Title, and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row as well.

Arkansas-Monticello will begin its’ 2018 campaign with a non-conference home series against Pittsburg State this weekend, starting on Friday, February 2 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Weevils Field.
