MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Hendrix’s Madelyn Klinkerman captured the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title in the discus and finished second in the hammer, helping the Warriors to a fourth-place finish after the second day of the SAA Championships at Wolfe Track and Field Complex on the campus of Rhodes (Tenn.) on Friday. The Warriors totaled 87.5 points.

“The field events definitely carried us on the women’s side, especially in the throws,” Hendrix head coach Andrew Raske said. “It’s always great to get a 1-2-3 sweep like we did in the discus. A huge credit goes to our seniors, who gave great performances and leadership.”

Klinkerman won the discus after a throw of 39.17 meters. Jaydan Hunt finished second after a heave of 39.06 meters, Alivia Allen was third with a mark of 33.98 meters and Kya Carroll was eighth at 26.80 meters.

Klinkerman’s best hammer throw went 42.41 meters, and Allen’s was 31.05 meters.

Klinkerman and Hunt tied as the ninth-highest scorers among all participants, as each compiled 18 points.

Allison Long finished third in the long jump with a distance of 5.15 meters, while Margaret Anderson was fifth at 4.88 meters. Anderson was third in the triple jump after recording a distance of 10.40 meters, and Jackie Greenwell came in seventh with a mark of 9.41 meters. Allana Sisco tied for third in the pole vault after clearing 2.88 meters. Rachel Woppman claimed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles in 18.66 seconds.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Long, Sisco, Woppman and Romee Blokland finished fifth in 52.25 seconds. The 4×400 meter relay team of Long, Woppman, Sisco and Blokland claimed fifth with a time of 4:26.84.

The Lynx won the team championship with 258 points.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Harding junior Anne-Noelle Clerima broke her own school record in the indoor 400 meters Saturday at the Arkansas Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Clerima, a native of Paris, France, placed fourth of 12 runners in 56.61 seconds, breaking her old time of 56.96, set last year.

Harding’s best finishes in the running events came in the 600 meters, an event rarely run in NCAA competition. Transfer Celia Stramrood, a native of Kempton Park, South Africa, placed second in 1:37.90, just ahead of teammate Natalie Toney, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, who was third in 1:39.48.

Harding’s top finisher in the field events was Brylan Williams, a junior from Bald Knob, Arkansas, who placed fourth with a clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches.

Harding finished fourth in the meet with 31 points. The other teams at the meet were Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas and Little Rock.

On Friday, Harding had two competitors at the Boo Rogers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kansas. Senior Darcy Sanford placed fourth of 12 athletes in the pentathlon with 3,200 points.

BATESVILLE – With the resignation of Milton Williams, who served as the head men’s and women’s track & field coach, Lyon College Director of Athletics Kevin Jenkins has named Adam Trausch as the new head coach of both programs.

Trausch served as the head coach for the track & field programs prior to Williams’ arrival before the start of the 2018-19 school year. Trausch spent the last two seasons assisting Williams with track & field. He will also keep his role of head men’s and women’s cross country coach.

“Coach [Adam] Trausch has done a great job in growing the cross country programs since they returned to campus and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with the track & field programs as well,” said Jenkins. “We are fortunate to have him here, and then be able to turn to him to lead both the cross country and track & field programs.”

Trausch, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., joined the Scots after serving as an assistant cross country/track coach for nearly six seasons with stops at Defiance College (2016-2017), UW-Oshkosh (2014-2016) and Wisconsin Lutheran College (2011-2013). During his time as an assistant, Trausch worked with cross country/distance student-athletes in training and strength and conditioning, recruited prospective student-athletes, managed budgets, fundraised and assisted meet management hosting high school, collegiate home meets, conference championships and the national cross country championship.

At Defiance, he mentored the HCAC women’s track athlete of the year and coached athletes to all-conference honors in the 5000 meter run and steeplechase. The Yellowjackets attained All-Academic team status in both track & field and cross country from the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.

As a volunteer assistant coach at UW-Oshkosh, Trausch assisted 2015 WIAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Eamon McKenna. That season the women finished 15^th at the national meet that was hosted by UW-Oshkosh, while the men finished 13^th, with one All-American in cross country. He mentored Jordan Carpenter, two-time recipient of the Elite 90 award, given to the highest grade point average at the National Championship.

As a graduate assistant at Wisconsin Lutheran, the men’s team went from seventh to third in the NACC. Trausch mentored back-to-back individual conference champions for the women’s team. In addition to the two conference champions, he coached eight first team all-conference runners.

In addition to his assistant coaching positions at the collegiate level, Trausch held other coaching positions. He also served as a counselor for the Milwaukee Area Distance Running Club (2013) and was a camp counselor for the Green Lake Cross Country Camp (2012-16).

Trausch attended Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich. He graduated in 2011 with a degree in business administration with a concentration in health service administration. He was a member of both the cross country and track and field teams at Davenport. Trausch was the first athlete in program history and was a four-time WHAC all-conference performer. In addition, he was a Daktronics Scholar-Athlete all four years of his career.

Trausch earned his USATF Level 1 Certification in 2012 and is a member of the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. He achieved the Eagle Scout Rank for the Boy Scouts of America in 2006. He resides in Batesville, Arkansas.

Trausch is pleased with his additional role and stated, “I am excited to lead and continue to build our programs here at Lyon – Go Scots!”

JOPLIN, Mo. – Harding men’s indoor track and field team had one event winner, two NCAA provisionals and two school records Friday and Saturday at the MSSU Lion Open and Multi, contested at the Missouri Southern Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.

Junior Matt Hipshire won the two-day heptathlon with a Harding-record 4,701 points, breaking the previous record of 4,539 set by Matt White at Arkansas in 2007.

Senior Mitchell Kessler broke his own school record in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.53 meters (60-09.50). His record came on his first of six throws and he is ranked 20th nationally in Division II.

In the seeded pole vault event, junior Alex Hindman cleared an NCAA provisional height of 4.89 meters (16-00.50). It was a career high and moved him into second place on Harding’s career indoor performers list. He is 16th nationally in the pole vault.

Below is a summary of Harding’s performances in each event:
60 meters – Sophomore Will Meredith finished first of four Bisons in the event. Meredith placed 16th of 59 dashers in 7.12 seconds. Freshman Krishaun Watson was 21st (7.16), sophomore Jamaric Hill was 33rd (7.26) and freshman Dakarai Bush was 38th (7.28).
200 meters – Sophomore Will Meredith placed 10th of 50 sprinters in 23.08 seconds. Freshman Andrew Ashmore was 19th in 23.38, freshman Krishaun Watson was 25th in 23.62, and sophomore Jamaric Hill was 33rd in 24.02.
400 meters – Freshman Andrew Ashmore placed 13th in 52.79, and sophomore Todd Earhart was 31st in 56.75.
600 yards – Junior Bryce Wiedower placed fourth of 16 runners in a personal-best time of 1:18.19.
800 meters – Freshman Jean-Louis Bouric placed third of 30 in 1:59.39 in his first collegiate 800.
Mile – Junior Keneth Chelelgo led three Harding runners with a 14th-place finish in a personal-best 4:32.59. Freshman Kendall Townsley was 15th in 4:35.02, and sophomore Colton Bowman placed 34th in 4:59.49.
3,000 meters – Freshman Tyler Harrod won his heat and placed eighth overall in 9:20.37. It was Harding’s fastest 3,000-meter time this season.
60-meter hurdles – Freshman Dakarai Bush placed fourth of 16 runners in the prelims with a time of 8.63 seconds, qualifying for Saturday’s final. Sophomore Garrett Watkinsplaced 12th in 8.98. Bush placed third in the final in 8.48 seconds.
4×400 Relay – Harding’s team of Andrew Ashmore, Dakarai Bush, Jean-Louis Bouric and Will Meredith teamed to finish fourth of 14 squads in 3:29.33.
Distance Medley Relay – Harding’s team of Kendall Townsley, Garrett Watkins, Jean-Louis Bouric and Jackson Pruim placed fifth of 11 teams in 10:53.49.
Heptathlon – Junior Matt Hipshire won the event with a Harding-record 4,701 points, breaking the previous record of 4,539 set by Matt White at Arkansas in 2007.
High Jump – Sophomore Garrett Watkins cleared 1.92 meters (6-03.50) to place third. It was a career-best clearance and moved him into ninth on Harding’s career indoor performers list.
Long Jump – Freshman Cedric Gable placed 22nd of 33 jumpers with a mark of 6.01 meters (19-08.75). Sophomore Kaleb Naceanceno was 26th at 5.73 meters (18-09.75).
Pole Vault – Sophomore Steven Konwent placed fifth of 11 vaulters by clearing 4.14 meters (13-07.00). In the seeded pole vault event, junior Alex Hindman cleared an NCAA provisional height of 4.89 meters (16-00.50). It was a career high and moved him into second place on Harding’s career indoor performers list.
Triple Jump – Sophomore Todd Earhart jumped 12.34 meters (40-06.00) to place 13th, and freshman Cedric Gable placed 14th at 12.24 meters (40-02.00).
Weight Throw – Senior Mitchell Kessler broke his own school record again with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.53 meters (60-09.50). His record came on his first of six throws.

CONWAY, Ark. – The SAU Men’s and Women’s Track and Field team had a pair of athletes reach NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying times in the same event on Saturday as a part of Central Arkansas’ Spring Opener.

Wesley Franklin and Raymond Miller both reached provisional qualifying times of 14.50 seconds in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

Franklin and Miller are the highlights as the Mulerider men won five events against competition from all around the state of Arkansas.

Franklin and Miller both finished in second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, with Franklin claiming first in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.06 seconds.

Ka’Ronce Higgins won the men’s 100-meter sprint with a time of 10.93 as the Muleriders swept the podium in that particular event.

In addition to Higgins finishing with the top time, Quincy Flowers and Christian Mosley finished second and third with times of 11.12 and 11.13 seconds, respectively.

The men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Mosley, Flowers, Austin Alexander and Higgins came in first with a time of 43.43 seconds.

Seniors Aurthur Jeffery and Gerald Pitts won their respective events, the triple jump and the shot put, with Jeffery winning with a jump of 13.97 meters and Pitts winning with a throw of 14.05 meters.
On the women’s side, one individual and two relay teams took home top honors in their events.

Adrianna Tillman won the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.34 meters. Courtney Williams took second in the event with a jump of 5.04 meters.

The 4×100-meter team of Breanna Byrd, Latyana Berry, Aniya King and Annie Oliver took first with a time of 48.85 seconds; also, the 4×800-meter relay team of Alyssa Dohm, Michelle Donohue, Cecilia Quesada and Carley Hale won that race with a time of 10:23.33.

The Muleriders are in action next Friday and Saturday in Memphis as they participate in the Rhodes Invitational hosted by Rhodes College.

EUGENE, Ore. – Arkansas State senior thrower Calea Carr closed her collegiate season at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at historic Hayward Field by earning All-America honors in discus throw with a sixth place finish.

Competing in the first of two flights on the final day at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Carr had quite the performance. Carr was third after the first round of throws at 49.89m (163-8). A personal-best throw on her second attempt moved her up to first in the flight at 54.28m (178-1), just shy of Julia Agawu’s school record of 54.59m (179-1).

Carr was ranked sixth overall after the second flight wrapped up under heavy rain. The rain subsided and Carr took advantage by breaking the school record with a throw of 54.67m (179-4). A light rain returned for the second round of throws and Carr fouled on her second attempt. Her final throw as a collegian was also a foul, but her school record throw clinched the sixth place finish.

“We are so happy for Calea, it was a great day for her and our program,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “It was awesome to see her throw that well in her final meet as a Red Wolf. She got the school record, First Team All-America honors and she’s the first to do that since Sharika Nelvis for the women’s team. That was a great performance to end on after the rough start we had, but it gives us a great performance to go home with.”

Carr improves upon her 19th place finish in the discus throw a season ago at 49.86m (163-7). This marks the third-consecutive season the A-State women’s throws group has seen an athlete earn All-America honors. Carr’s sixth place finish ties for the third-highest finish by an A-State women’s student-athlete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

JONESBORO – Arkansas State senior track and field sprinter Jaylen Bacon has been named the U.S. Track and Field/Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2018 NCAA Division I South Central Region Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in an announcement from the organization’s office Friday.

Bacon recently tied the world’s fastest time in the 100-meter dash with a wind legal 9.97 seconds at the NCAA West Region Preliminary at Sacramento State University. The time not only broke his own school-record in the event, but also qualified him a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100-meter dash for the second consecutive season.

Bacon has posted times sub-10 second times in three of his last four races in the 100-meter dash, which included a time of 9.99 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.

The Eastover, S.C. native will also compete in the 200-meter race at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., after posting a time of 20.51 seconds, which was the second fastest among the qualifiers in the West Region, and eighth among all qualifiers. He has posted a season-best time of 20.25 seconds, which currently ranks as the eight fastest in the United States.

He is the first A-State student-athlete since Sharika Nelvis in 2014 to earn the South Central’s Athlete of the Year honor.

He also helped Arkansas State win both the men’s indoor and outdoor Sun Belt Conference championships, marking the first-time in school the feat had been accomplished as a member of the SBC. Bacon won gold in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash races as he finished career with nine SBC gold medals.

Bacon competed in the 2017 outdoor championships where he became the first athlete in program history to earn First-Team All-American honors in two separate events at the one NCAA Championship, including both indoor and outdoor events.

He later went on to compete for team USA at the 2017 IAAF World Championships where he helped the team to a silver medal in the 4x100m relay race.

The regional award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.  The USTFCCCA honored the top track athletes and field athletes along with the top head coaches and assistant coaches for both men and women.  The USTFCCCA awarded recipients in nine regions – Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast, and West.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 2018 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships continued on Saturday as Little Rock’s Max Holzmueller highlighted the day by breaking the school record in the men’s decathlon.

Holzmueller entered Saturday in eighth place with 3,489 points after five of the 10 decathlon events — 2,486 points shy of the school record. He began the day by placing eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71 and then took 10th in the discus throw with a mark of 30.47 meters. Holzmueller shined in the pole vault as he finished second with a mark of 4.50 meters — the second-best mark in program history. After finishing 12th in the javelin throw, Holzmueller ended the decathlon by finishing first in the 1500 with a time of 4:40.98. The 1500 win was more than enough to break the school record as he finished with 6,515 points and took seventh-place overall.

Holzmueller’s record-breaking feat came exactly 11 years ago to the day when former Trojan Darren Caradine set the previous school record with 5,975 points.

In other action, Jalen Black set a personal record in the 400 prelim with a time of 48.52. The time was good enough 11th and was the ninth-fastest in program history. Ch’kilas Calhoun took 15th in 49.41 seconds.

Noah Smith just missed the cut for the 800-meter final as he finished ninth with a personal record of 1:54.315 — just .04 seconds off the eighth-fastest time. Imad Amenzou was 15th in 1:56.02, and Hunter Tucker was 20th in a personal-record time of 1:57.78. Garrett Rokas placed 22nd with a time of 2:01.96, and Jarred O’Connor finished 24th with a personal record of 2:04.85.

Charles Okeze tied for 13th in the 100-meter prelim with a time of 10.488 seconds. Keshawn Andrews finished 16th in 10.58 seconds to claim the ninth-fastest time in program history. Also claiming a top-10 spot in program history was Travion Clark as he finished 19th in 10.598 seconds. Jaelon Gossett was 24th in 10.76 seconds, and Emmanuel Olie was 27th with a personal record of 10.83 seconds.

Overall, Little Rock is currently tied for ninth place with two points after two days of competition.

The Trojans will conclude the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. Live coverage on ESPN3 is set to begin at 5 p.m. (CT).

CONWAY – Two Harding freshmen earned event victories for the Lady Bisons Saturday at the UCA Open track and field meet.

Liz Fouts broke her own school record and eclipsed the NCAA provisional mark for the first time with a winning throw of 147 feet 8 inches. She had fouled on four of her first five throws, but her sixth and final throw was the record-breaker.

Fouts has now won the discus in each of her last three meets. She is now ranked in the top 40 nationally in the discus.

In the running events, Alicja Minczuk won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 17.40 seconds. It was her fourth event victory of the outdoor season and her second in the 800 meters. She also won the 800 at the Harding Invitational on March 24.

Harding had one other top-three finish in the running events. Senior Raianne Mason was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.15.

The Lady Bisons also turned in two second-place finishes and four thirds in the field events. Senior Kaeli Miller was second in the pole vault (9-05.75), and Cara Mason was second in the shot put (36-02).

Third-place finishers included freshman Darcy Sanford in the high jump (5-3), freshman Anna Bristo in the pole vault (8-11.75), sophomore Ariel Syrotchen in the hammer throw (125-00), and sophomore Jenni Nadeau in the javelin (110-10).

Harding’s next outdoor event is the Great American Conference Championship beginning April 19 in Magnolia, Arkansas.
