Nick Bushart, Sports Information Director

BETHANY, Okla. – Tigers Football takes out the Crimson Storm, 27-13, behind a steady ground attack and a stingy defense at the SNU Football Stadium.

Ouachita’s defensive unit came out of halftime on fire flying around to the football. In the third quarter the Crimson Storm had a net of -3 yards total. Overall in the second half the Tigers only allowed SNU to put up 24 yards to close out the game.

The defense was led by linebacker <dfn>Oshae Pruitt</dfn> who put in 10 tackles on the day, 4 solo and 6 assisted. Keandra Evans had another great game recording eight tackles and blocking an extra point. <dfn>Terrell Gibson</dfn> made big plays in the second half from the linebacker position putting in six tackles including a tackle for a loss.

<dfn>Brockton Brown</dfn> led the offensive attack for the Tigers rushing 20 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns. The largest run of the day was a 60 yard touchdown scamper that gave Ouachita their first lead of the night. <dfn>TJ Cole</dfn> also had a good rushing day for Ouachita carrying the ball 15 times for 89 yards and a touchdown.

The weather conditions in Bethany were less than ideal as the rain and the cold beat down on the teams. The Tigers started the first 23 minutes of the game attempting to acclimate to the conditions. After going down 13-0 the Tigers fought back with a score of their own. Getting the ball with 4:13 left in the half the Tigers marched down the field with six plays going 46 yards. The drive was capped off by Brown’s first touchdown of the night.

After the half, the Tigers stopped the Crimson Storm on a critical fourth down taking over the ball in the SNU territory. In three plays the Tigers punched the ball in the end zone to tie up the game. Ouachita got the ball back with 3:34 left in the third quarter and only needed two plays to see <dfn>Brockton Brown</dfn> storm down the field on a 60 yard rush for a touchdown. The score gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 20-13.

The Tigers put it out of reach in the fourth quarter going 80 yards on 12 plays running off 6:18 to take a 27-13 lead. In the second half, the Tigers would put in 186 yards and scored three touchdowns to push their record to 8-0 on the season.

Ouachita returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Southern Arkansas at 2:00 PM in the Murphy Classic.

Harding Sports
Scott Goode, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations

SEARCY – Southern Nazarene scored two touchdowns in the final 49 seconds Saturday to erase a 13-point Harding lead and defeat the Bisons, 28-27, in Great American Conference action at First Security Stadium.

Harding dropped to 0-3 overall and in the GAC. Southern Nazarene is 2-1 overall and in the GAC.

A pair of <dfn>Tristan Parsley</dfn> fourth-quarter field goals, the second coming from 22 yards out with 3:57 left in the game gave Harding a 27-14 lead.

Junior quarterback Jackson Hopking entered the game for Southern Nazarene on its next drive, filling in for injured starter Jacob Spady. Hopking directed an 11-play, 83-yard drive and connected with sophomore wide receiver Zach Walker on a 16-yard touchdown pass to cut Harding’s lead to 27-21 with 49 seconds left.

Southern Nazarene recovered kicker Carlos Anguiano’s ensuing on-side kick, a slow roller covered by Reid Roelofs just after it reached the required 10 yards.

Southern Nazarene took over at their own 46 with 46 seconds left. Following a pass interference penalty, Hopking threw a pass to the near sideline that was deflected by wide receiver Reese Carlson into the hands of Roelofs, who raced 39 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 29 seconds remaining. Anguiano made the extra point to set the final margin.

Harding led 14-0 at halftime on an 18-yard first-quarter touchdown run from freshman fullback <dfn>Cole Chancey</dfn> and a 1-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback <dfn>Terrence Dingle</dfn>in the second quarter.

Southern Nazarene scored on its opening drive of the second half. Spady capped a 65-yard drive with a 15-yard scoring run.

Harding went ahead 21-7 on Dingle’s second rushing touchdown, a 4-yard run with 5:39 left in the third.

A Harding miscue, a high snap on a punt that resulted in a 41-yard loss, set up Southern Nazarene’s next score. Roelofs caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Spady for his first of two touchdowns with 22 seconds left in the third quarter. Harding led 21-14 entering the fourth quarter.

<dfn>Terrence Dingle</dfn> rushed for 121 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns. It was his first career 100-yard rushing game.

Freshman <dfn>Cole Chancey</dfn> started a fullback and rushed for 95 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown.

Harding rushed for 338 yards on 58 carries. It was the 50th time in Harding’s last 51 games that the Bisons have rushed for more than 200 yards in a game.

Sophomore <dfn>Jacory Nichols</dfn> started a safety and led Harding with six tackles.

Senior slot back <dfn>Zach Shelley</dfn> rushed for 66 yards and became the seventh Bison to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a career.

The loss was the first for Harding in six meetings with Southern Nazarene. Southern Nazarene won on the road in Arkansas for the first time in its last 15 games.

Harding will go on the road for the second time this season, taking on Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at noon in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

SAU Sports
Daniel Gallegos, Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications

MAGNOLIA – A walk-off homerun from <dfn>Maddie Dow</dfn> in the tenth inning lifted the Lady Mulerider softball team to a 7-5 victory in game one followed by an 8-0 run-rule victory in game two, in which <dfn>Kaylee Garner</dfn> tossed a no-hitter to complete the doubleheader sweep over Southern Nazarene on Monday.

TEAM RECORDS
Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders: 21-3, 11-1 GAC
Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm: 5-15, 3-9 GAC

PITCHING DECISIONS- GAME 1
W: <dfn>Jill Roye</dfn> (2-0)
L: Katelyn Brown (1-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME 1

For the first four innings, Southern Arkansas relied on a solo homer from <dfn>Brooke Goad</dfn> as she blasted her ninth of the season in the first inning on a 1-1 pitch over the right centerfield fence to give SAU an early 1-0 advantage over the Crimson Storm.

Southern Nazarene put up three runs on one hit in the fifth inning with the help of a pair of errors before SAU came back to tie the game in the bottom of the frame at 3-all.

In that inning, Goad hit her second homerun of the game after a no-doubter solo bomb to right field put SAU just one-run shy of SNU. <dfn>Maddie Dow</dfn> complemented her with a solo shot to left centerfield, her 11th of the season, that forced a tied game heading into the sixth.

Both teams remained scoreless in the next four innings sending the game into extras before the Crimson Storm made a break-through in the top of the tenth after scoring a pair of runs on one hit and two errors that gave them the 5-3 lead.

SAU rallied back in the bottom of the frame eventually taking the 7-5 victory over SNU.

That inning started off after a sacrifice fly off the bat of <dfn>Yulissa Hinojosa</dfn> plated Islava, who previously reached base on a walk. With a pair of runners on the base paths, SAU’s active 2017 season homerun leader, <dfn>Maddie Dow</dfn>, sent an absolute missile over the left field wall that plated the last three runs and ended the game in walk-off fashion.

IN THE CIRCLE

The rubber match ended with a win in the circle for <dfn>Jill Roye</dfn>, her second on the year.

Roye came in relief in the fifth inning giving up three runs on one hit while striking out nine in six innings pitched.

AT THE PLATE

Dow led the SAU offense with four RBI’s on three hits including a pair of homeruns and runs scored.

Goad followed with a pair of RBI’s on two homeruns.

Hinojosa tallied an RBI in the game.

<dfn>Megan Godoyo</dfn> was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

______________________________________________________________

PITCHING DECISIONS- GAME 2
W: <dfn>Kaylee Garner</dfn> (9-0)
L: Brooke Tate (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME 2

In the bottom of the first inning, <dfn>Brooke Goad</dfn> led off with a hit up the middle before Roye plated her with a single to right field that put SAU on the board 1-0.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Islava drew a one-out walk that brought Dow home. SAU’s second run of the inning came on a batted ball by Godoyo that scored Duran, extending the Lady Mulerider lead out to 3-0.

Southern Arkansas added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth after tacking on five runs on six hits. Back-to-back hits from Hinojosa and Goad brought Dow to the plate as she belted her third homerun of the day on a 3-run shot to left field. <dfn>Tyler Casada</dfn> banged an RBI double into the left-centerfield gap before a single off the bat of Islava plated the final run of the frame.

In the top of the fifth, Garner shut down the last three of the four batters she faced that allowed her to establish a no-hitter resulting in a 8-0 run-rule victory for SAU.

IN THE CIRCLE

Garner was spectacular in the circle in her five-innings pitched as she didn’t allow any hits or runs and struck out five.

Garners no-hitter is the ninth in program history.

AT THE PLATE

Dow led the offense for SAU once again with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate with three RBI’s on a homerun and a pair of runs scored.

Islava collected a pair of RBI’s on one hit.

Roye, Casada, and Godoyo each accounted for an RBI in the game.

Duran was 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.

<dfn>Rachel Miller</dfn> and Hinojosa each collected a hit.

UP NEXT

The Lady Muleriders travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma next weekend for a series against GAC opponent Southwestern Oklahoma. The first doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday.

SEARCY – Harding’s women scored the first 12 points, led by as many as 23 and held off a late Southern Nazarene charge to defeat the Crimson Storm 82-70 on Saturday in Great American Conference action before 746 fans at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding improved to 17-3 overall and 14-1 in conference games, winning for the 11th time in its last 12 outings. The Lady Bisons have won all nine home games this season and 11 straight dating to last season.

Harding remains two games ahead of Arkansas Tech for first place in the GAC standings. Tech defeated Oklahoma Baptist 91-65 on Saturday in Russellville.

Southern Nazarene fell to 10-9 overall and 6-8 in GAC play, losing its third straight road game.

Harding had a 12-0 lead within the game’s first three minutes. The Lady Bisons got two layups from freshman Peyton Padgett, another from A’ndi Haney, and Falan Miller and Sydney Layrock each hit 3-pointers during the run.

Harding led 22-12 after one and extended the lead in the second quarter. Another 3-pointer from Layrock just before halftime gave the Lady Bisons a 46-23 advantage, its largest of the game.

Harding led 64-44 after the third quarter, but Southern Nazarene opened the fourth on a 15-2 run and closed to within 66-59 on an Adrienne Berry 3-pointer with 7:20 left. The Lady Bisons answered with an 11-1 run with five different players scoring during the spurt. Southern Nazarene got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Layrock led Harding with 20 points, her fifth game with 20 or more points this season. Haney had 13 points, six assists and six rebounds, and Sydnie Jones scored 12 points, shooting 8-of-9 at the free-throw line.

Berry led Southern Nazarene with 27 points, the most by a Harding opponent this season. She was 10-of-18 from the field and made four of Southern Nazarene’s six 3-pointers. Abby Boyd added 16 points and had six of the Crimson Storm’s nine assists.

Saturday’s game was the second of four straight home games for the Lady Bisons, who return to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House on Thursday to host Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
