JONESBORO – Arkansas State senior wide receiver Jonathan Adams Jr. made his fifth appearance on a 2020 All-America team Wednesday, earning second-team honors from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

Adams becomes just the second player in school history to be named to the FWAA All-America Team, joining former offensive lineman and 1975 first-team selection Ken Jones.

In addition to the FWAA, Adams has also garnered second-team All-America recognition this year from the Sporting News, Associated Press and CBS Sports. He has also been tabbed an Honorable Mention All-American by Pro Football Focus (PFF).

The Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist, Adams ranks third in the nation in total receptions (79) and touchdown catches (12) and fifth in receiving yards (1,111). Both his 7.9 receptions per game and 111.1 receiving yards average rank ninth in the country.

The Jonesboro, Ark., native was twice named the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Week this season while being selected to the East-West Shrine Bowl and receiving a Hula Bowl invitation. He posted five 100-yard receiving games that are tied for the sixth most in the nation and tied for the second most in both Arkansas State and Sun Belt Conference history.

Adams’ 1,111 receiving yards are the third most ever by an A-State player, while his 79 catches rank fifth in the school record books. He was selected as the National Player of the Week by the Maxwell Award, 247Sports, Athlon Sports (offensive) and Frisco Bowl (offensive) after leading A-State to a 35-31 victory over Kansas State, when he posted eight receptions for 98 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, including the game winner.

Adams was responsible for at least five catches in every game this season and caught multiple passes in 25 consecutive games while climbing the career-records charts at A-State. He ranks second all-time at A-State for receiving touchdowns (21), third for receptions (166) and fifth for receiving yards (2,306). His 21 career touchdown grabs are also tied for the fifth most in Sun Belt Conference history.

JONESBORO – Arkansas State senior wide receiver Jonathan Adams Jr. was named Monday as an Associated Press (AP) All-America selection, earning second-team honors.

Adams is the first A-State player to be named an AP First or Second Team All-America since former offensive lineman Jim Wiseman and defensive lineman Charlie Fredrick both garnered first-team recognition in 1987. However, former wide receiver Omar Bayless was a third-team pick in 2019 to give the Red Wolves an AP All-America pick each of the last two years.

A First Team All-Sun Belt pick and Biletnikoff Award semifinalist, Adams ranks third in the nation in total receptions (79) and touchdown catches (12) and fifth in receiving yards (1,111). Both his 7.9 receptions per game and 111.1 receiving yards average rank ninth in the country.

This is the third All-American award for A-State in school history with Schaedig earning the first accolade as an Honorable Mention selection in 2014 before Carlisa May earned Honorable Mention status last season. Most recently, Schaedig was named to her third consecutive AVCA All-Southwest Region team, which is a school record.

“I am really honored and can’t thank my coaches and teammates enough,” commented Schaedig. “They are my second family and have made my four years here at A-State something to remember. All I wanted to do was make the program better and I feel like I’ve helped to do that.”

A native of Little Rock, Ark., Schaedig led the team with 609 digs (5.30 per set), which is the eighth most in a single season in school history. The 5.30 digs per set mark ranks 11th in the nation, while the 609 digs are 18th most. The senior libero registered her third consecutive Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year award and claimed two Defensive Player of the Week awards this season to give her 12 for her career, which is tied for the most in league history. She leaves A-State with the third-most career digs in school history with 2,153.

Schaedig tallied double-digit digs in all but three matches during the 2016 campaign, including a season-high 36 in a 3-2 win at Coastal Carolina Sept. 25. She registered 20 or more digs in 17 matches and helped the Red Wolves’ defense hold opponents to a .160 hitting percentage, which ranked second in the league and is 15th-best in the country.

“This is a fantastic accolade for Markie,” A-State head volleyball coach David Rehr said. “She was our very first All-American in school history and now she’s the first to be recognized two times. She’s definitely left a positive mark in her four-year career at Arkansas State.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2017 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team. The 17-member squad was chosen by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (NAIA-BCA) All-America Committee.

Two-time NAIA First Team All-American Keivan Berges of Keiser (Fla.), who was also a preseason honoree last year, headlines this season’s selections. Last season, the designated hitter ranked among the top 10 nationally in home runs (21), total bases (180), RBI (80), total hits (99) and slugging percentage (.776). Berges boasts a .378 career batting average and .667 slugging percentage.

Peyton Deiters of Kansas Wesleyan and Jalin Lawson of Central Baptist (Ark.) are the other 2016 First Team All-America selections included on the list. Deiters ranked No. 4 nationally in RBI (81) a season ago, while Lawson listed among the top five in four statistical categories – home runs (23), runs scored (81), slugging percentage (.877) and total bases (178). Lawson was a key component of a Central Baptist club that made its first-ever appearance in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round in 2016.

Five other individuals that were named to the 2016 second team at the end of last season garnered a position on the preseason unit – Andy Mocahbee of Middle Georgia State, Gregg Veneklasen of Wayland Baptist (Texas), Andrew Gross of Houston-Victoria (Texas), Brandon Guske of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and Ben McKendall of Bellevue (Neb.).

There are two individuals on the squad whose program participated in the 2016 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series last season – Dillon White of Science & Arts and McKendall.
